Brakfonein substation recovery work still ongoing

The City of Tshwane reports that work is progressing on the repairs to the Brakfontein substation.

This after a fire broke out at the 132/11kV Substation in Brakfontein on Thursday evening, causing significant damage to cables and 11kV feeder panels.
Tshwane Member of the Mayoral Committee (MMC) for Utility Services, Frans Boshielo, confirmed that the fire at the substation was caused by the theft and vandalism of control cables.
City spokesperson Lindela Mashigo says teams are now focused on installing control and protection cables, a critical step in ensuring the safe and reliable operation of the substation.
"Pressure testing of cables and transformers is currently underway to verify their integrity and performance. These tests are essential in identifying any potential issues and ensuring that the equipment can withstand the electrical stresses it will be subjected to.
"The removal of burned panels and cables is also progressing."
Mashigo adds that the City is this morning restoring power to the Waterkloof and surrounding areas that were affected by a medium voltage outage.
