Updated | By Bulletin / Jacaranda FM
The City of Tshwane MMC for Utility Services, Frans Boshielo, has confirmed that the recent fire at Brakfontein substation was caused by the theft and vandalism of control cables.

In a statement on Friday, Boshielo said the damage caused by the theft and vandalism compromised protection systems, sparking the blaze.
Boshielo confirmed that the city’s engineers completed their assessment and are working to restore power urgently.
“Our engineers are working tirelessly to restore power as swiftly as possible and appreciate the patience and understanding of our community during this time,” the MMC said.
“To prevent such incidents in the future, the city will be implementing enhanced security measures to safeguard critical infrastructure. We urge residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the authorities.”
