Case against 'fake passport syndicate' postponed
Updated | By Bulletin / Jacaranda FM
The Durban Specialised Commercial Crimes Court in KwaZulu-Natal has postponed the case of seven people accused of being part of a fake passport syndicate to Friday for legal aid and a bail application.

Home Affairs officials are also allegedly involved in the scam.
They face charges of fraud, corruption, and immigration law violations.
National Prosecuting Authority regional spokesperson Natasha Ramkisson-Kara says these passports were processed after hours, on weekends, and public holidays.
“The state is alleging that some officials or employees of the Department of Home Affairs acted in concert with members of the syndicate to process fraudulent passport applications at various offices.
“The fraudulent passport applications were processed for undeserving foreign nationals using the particulars of South African citizens who are lawful holders of South African ID documents, but do not have passports.”
