The City of Joburg has opened a case of fraud, theft and corruption with the Hawks against three of its officials and three suppliers after they allegedly defrauded the City of R7.5 million rand.

Joburg Mayor, Herman Mashaba says the Head of the City's Anti - Corruption Unit, General Shadrack Sibiya, has submitted a report of fraudulent activities at the Joburg Market.
"The report details how the group defrauded the City by misrepresenting the amount of goods received via the market's procurement process", says Mashaba.
'"Officials also fraudulently misrepresented the completeness of services rendered by some suppliers, causing substantial financial loss to the market", added Mashaba.
The City of Joburg has made it clear that officials named in the report, will also face internal disciplinary proceedings.
"The three implicated officials have been suspended pending the outcome of all investigations", said Mashaba.
Last year, Mashaba appointed former head of the Gauteng Hawks, General Shadrack Sibiya, as head of the City's forensic department.
