The students also called for the removal of the campus manager.

They told Jacaranda FM News,  that at the start of the academic year they've only attended classes for one week.

The protest started last week Thursday.

One of the first-year students spoke to Jacaranda FM News on condition of anonymity, and said she is worried that if she fails, the National Finacial Aid Scheme (Nsfas) will not fund her again.

"We are striking because we don't have enough lectures, and teachers are not coming in to our classes, and some of the students don't have textbooks.

There's some lecturers are who are always here at campus, but they don't teach us."

She expressed concern over the start of tests, because "we don't have a clue of what we are going to write, what if we fail? NSFAS won't even fund us. I think it is better to strike, this affects us because we are left behind. I'm a first-year student. Even though I can try to study by myself, I won't understand anything because I don't have a clue."

One of the student leaders, who did not want to be identified, said the campus manager is failing them by not ensuring that there is enough staff.

"Some of the students are owing over R80 000,00 and before they could be registered, the college wants 10% of the debt. Where will they get it?

We are facing a lot of issues, we don't have textbooks, we don't have lecturers.

The campus manager is failing us - that's why we are failing.

Since I came here in 2023, I have never seen any renovations at the campus, the school is not clean. Even air-conditioners are not working in some classes."

The college could not be reached for a comment at the time of publishing.
