Clean water flow in Hammanskraal as first project phase ends
Updated | By Selaki Ledwaba
After two decades of water struggle in Haamanskraal, the Department of Water and Sanitation has announced the successful completion of the first phase of the water treatment project by Magalies Water and the City of Tshwane.

In a statement, the Department of Water and Sanitation, says the project includes an advanced facility equipped with four package plants to ensure the supply of clean water in Hammanskraal.
Water and Sanitation spokesperson, Cornelius Monama says visible efforts have been made in the journey to deliver potable water.
“These include the flushing of the reticulation system, optimisation of the entire system and monitoring of the water quality, and the main aim is to ensure that the water is compliant to the SANS 241 specifications,” says Monama
“The first phase of the project has been completed and this signifies that at least 12.5 megalitres per day (ML/d) of treated water will be supplied to various regions in Hammanskraal.”
“These regions are situated within wards 49, 73, 74, and 75, specifically Mandela Village, Marokolong, Ramotse, Kekana Gardens respectively, along with Babelegi Industrial.”
Monama says in recent weeks, Magalies Water and CoT have inspected and purged the reticulation system which was previously supplied by the Temba Water Works, using water sourced from the new Klipdrift Package Plant.
He added that the aim of this inspection was to ensure the full rehabilitation and disinfection of the water system.
“This was followed by frequent monitoring of water quality in the reticulation network and the results show that there is significant improvement in the water quality.”
Monama urged residents of Hammanskraal to be aware of the significant progress that they have achieved, following the initial release of water from the Klipdrift Package Plant.
He added that the Klipdrift Package Plant continues to supply the City of Tshwane with projected volumes of about 12.5 Mega Liters a day and that the water provided meets the minimum standard requirements for drinking water in South Africa.
