Cocaine worth R200m stolen from Hawks office in KZN

Cocaine with an estimated street value of some R200 million have been stolen from the Hawks' offices in Port Shepstone, KwaZulu-Natal.

The break-in is believed to have happened between 4pm on Friday and 7am on Monday.


Hawks spokesperson Nomthandazo Mbambo says the suspect stole 541kg of cocaine and ransacked the office where the safes were kept.  


“The suspects gained entry into the building by forcing open the windows.  One of the safes in the office, which were used to store exhibits, was tampered with.”


Mbambo says a case of business burglary has been opened for further investigation.


The police’s forensic service has also been requested to investigate the matter.


No arrests have been made.
