Eldorado Park case: Committee urges ‘watertight' prosecution against parents
Updated | By Selaki Ledwaba
The Portfolio Committee on Community Safety in the Gauteng legislature says the decision to abandon bail by the parents of a four-year-old Eldorado Park girl is an acknowledgement of the seriousness of the case.

The two parents appeared before the Protea Magistrate's Court on Monday, facing charges of murder and child abuse.
The father is also facing charges of rape, compelled rape and assault.
The committee’s chairperson, Dr Bandile Masuku, called on the NPA to present a “watertight” case against the accused.
“It is the committee’s firm position that individuals accused of such heinous crimes should remain in custody, as they pose a grave threat to the safety and well-being of our communities.
“Furthermore, the committee urges the courts to impose the harshest possible sentences should the accused be found guilty.”
Both parents were arrested on 6 August after a video, in which the child can be heard screaming during an alleged assault by the parents, went viral.
The child died from severe head trauma on the day of the parents’ arrest.
Masuku said the committee stands in solidarity with the Eldorado Park community and those affected case.
“It remains steadfast in its commitment to advocating for justice, accountability, and the protection of women and children who continue to bear the brunt of gender-based violence and violent crimes in our province.”
