A Hawks officer and three suspects were killed during a gun battle in Mamelodi, east of Pretoria on Thursday.

The shoot-out occurred after a senior team from the Hawks pounced on a home in Mamelodi where it was purported that high-calibre rifles were being kept.
Hawks national spokesperson Nomthandazo Mbambo says when the officers approached the house, the suspects took shots at the members and a shootout ensued.
"The Tactical Operations Management Section (TOMS) members executed an operation upon receipt of information regarding the mentioned illegal firearms kept in a shack at an informal settlement in Lusaka, Mamelodi.
"As the team tactically approached the identified shack the suspects opened fire and a shootout ensued. Three suspects were fatally shot and one member was fatally wounded."
Three rifles, including two Uzis and an R4, and four pistols were seized at the scene.
