Cosatu to bring economy to standstill

The Congress of South African Trade Unions (Cosatu) is set to bring the economy to a standstill on February 13.
The trade union federation aims to highlight the recent jobs losses in the and the planned retrenchments at the SABC.
Cosatu general secretary Bheki Ntshalintshali, says preparations for strike is in full swing.
Ntshalintshali was briefing the media on the outcome of the Special Central Committee in Braamfontein on Tuesday.
Ntshalintshali says the real unemployment numbers stand at 38%.
“With close to 10 million people struggling to get jobs and over 17 million on welfare.”
He says South Africa has the highest unemployment rate among more than 60 emerging and developed countries.
The strike will also call for a redistribution of wealth.
He says eight national marches will take place on the same day and the only province not taking part is the Western Cape.
“Another one on the 19th of February 2019 in Cape Town to coincide with the Budget Speech on the 20th of February 2019.”
