Court to decide on Shembe Church leadership

The Nazareth Baptist Church says it is not discussing succession at this stage.

This after the church's leader, Inkosi Vela Shembe died at his Umtwalume home on the south coast this week.
Last year, a Durban court ruled that Shembe was the rightful leader of the church.

Its former leader, Vimbeni Shembe died in 2011. His son, Mduduzi and cousin, Vela both claimed they were the next in line for the leadership role.

"It's not our focus - the court will deliver its ruling. We were told that it will probably be before the end of this year. Right now our focus is to bury our leader. The court will make its pronouncement and whatever its directive, we will take it from there," spokesperson, Nkululeko Mthethwa says.
