Covid-19 sees famous Fugard Theatre close its doors permanently

The Fugard Theatre in Cape Town has announced that it would close permanently with immediate effect.

The theatre, which first closed its doors a year ago, went digital in 2020 in an attempt to adhere to Covid-19 social distancing regulations.
In a statement, the management says due to the Covid-19 pandemic, running the threaten is no longer financially viable.
The 320-seater auditorium is located within the historic Sacks Futeran building in District Six.

It was named after International renowned South African play writer Athol Fugard who worked with acclaimed actor and director John Kani and late actor Zakes Mokae using theatre to expose the apartheid regime.
It is the home of many plays including Kunene and The King, Statements After An Arrest Under The Immorality Act, and District Six- Kanala.
