The party already fired two of its of councillors earlier this month for helping to unseat the party in the Johannesburg metro last year.

Further chaos erupted in council on Thursday with Still publically pledging his allegiance to the ANC.

The DA’s  caucus leader in Johannesburg Funzela Ngobeni says it’s now clear that a total of three councillors voted with the ANC in favour of Makhubo.

“When the mayor was elected last month, councillor Geoff Makhubo, there were three DA councillors that voted for him. Two of those councillors have been unmasked and they were fired by the party.

“Today one of those three councillors revealed himself when we walked out of council, and councillor Anthony Still remained with the ANC, and he is the reason why ANC managed to have a quorum and they continued with the illegal meeting.”

Ngobeni says the party walked out of council as they does not recognise Nonceba Molelwe as the legitimate speaker.

“We can only go to council and participate when there is a speaker who is legitimate and to us the legitimate speaker is (former speaker) Vasco Da Gama"
