DA knows it cannot unseat ANC on its own, says analyst

Political analyst Levy Ndou says the DA goes into the general elections with an understanding that it cannot unseat the ANC without help from other political parties.

DA leader John Steenhuisen emphasised the need for the Multi-Party Charter, consisting over various opposition parties, at the weekend.

Steenhuisen spoke during the party's election manifesto launch at the Union Buildings on Saturday.

The Multi-Party Charter includes the DA, ACDP, IFP, ActionSA and other opposition parties.

The parties have come together in a bid to fight off the ANC and the EFF in the upcoming general elections.

“There was a lot of emphasis on the Multi-Party Charter by the leader of the Democratic Alliance and that clearly indicates that they’ve accepted that on their own, the DA cannot unseat the ANC," Ndou said.

“Instead of selling themselves, they spent a lot of time talking about their opponent and that has the potential to confuse an illiterate person because this person would constantly hear ANC in a rally of another party.

“The ANC is a ruling party, it might not be easy for you to avoid talking about their shortcomings, but spending a lot of time talking about the ANC than talking about yourself has got a lot of disadvantages."
