DA: Level of violence in Soshanguve attack 'alarming'
Updated | By Selaki Ledwaba
The DA in Gauteng wants closer cooperation between the Tshwane metro police and the South African Police Service in the battle against the illegal alcohol trade.

This follows the death of four community patrollers, who were shot and killed at the Marry Me Informal Settlement in Soshanguve in the early hours of Saturday morning.
Police said the patrollers were confronted by a group of five men, which led to an altercation leaving eight injured and four dead.
The DA’s Crezane Bosch says alcohol is a proven factor which has been directly linked to common assault, gender-based violence, and murder.
“The level of violence, with victims not only shot but also partially burned, is alarming and highlights the urgent need for stronger crime prevention measures,” said Bosch.
“We cannot allow a situation where community members who step up to fill the gaps left by an under-resourced police force are murdered in such a brutal manner. If patrollers are targeted, it will discourage community involvement, making it even easier for criminals to terrorise residents.”
Gauteng police said the motive and identities of the suspects are still unknown.
