DA: New Gauteng Health MEC must remove corruption networks
The Democratic Alliance (DA) in Gauteng has called on new Health MEC Dr Nomathemba Mokgethi to remove political appointments in the department.
Gauteng Premier David Makhura announced the appointment of Mokgethi as the new Health MEC on Thursday.
She replaces the axed Bandile Masuku.

“We wish the new MEC well, though she has a daunting task and this time she must get it right,” says the DA’s Jack Bloom
“There have been intervention teams before, but they have failed. I think she must do deep systematic changes in that department, get rid of political appointments and the corruption network and make sure that there is a decent health facility for all our patients in Gauteng.”
Bloom says the state of healthcare in the province needs to improve.
“We hope the newly appointed MEC will look to Western Cape as a model of a decent health system with efficient management systems. She really have to get rid of the deep-rooted corruption networks in the Gauteng Health Department, all the incompetent people there. She’s got to put the right people in the right places and make sure our hospitals and clinics provide decent service.”
