President Cyril Ramaphosa said he would also send envoys to Washington to persuade President Donald Trump to reconsider his Executive Order to halt all aid and assistance.

Trump signed an executive order on Friday freezing aid to South Africa and prioritising the resettlement of Afrikaners in the US as refugees.

Trump said South Africa’s recently adopted Expropriation Act, discriminates against the white minority population by allowing the state to seize land without compensation.

DA Gauteng spokesperson, Louse Powell, said the party has had a long-standing outreach programme in the United States that was created by the break-down in relations with South Africa resulting in the haul of foreign aid and potential implications for AGOA.

“The relationship break-down follows the ANC's misteps in Moscow, joint Russian and Chinse military drills, the Lady R allegations, BRICS expansion to include Iran, and South Africa's actions at the ICJ - all of which resulted in a breakdown of trust, with potential implications for AGOA,”

“We will continue to meet with decision makers to communicate the actions we are taking within the GNU to advance the realignment of our domestic and foreign policy agenda, ensuring our two countries maintain strong and cordial diplomatic relations.” Powell said.
