Police on Monday continued the search for a 22-year-old inmate, Pule Vitals Mahanetsa, after he escaped from the Rustenburg Correctional Centre in North West.

The Department of Correctional Services confirmed Mahanetsa escaped from the prison, based in North West, on Friday.
Mahanetsa is a Lesotho national, who escaped while serving three months for immigration violations. He is also on trial for murder.
Spokesperson for the Department of Correctional Services Tshidi Mapole said they are appealing to the public to assist with any information that may lead to the arrest of Mahanetsa.
“He is serving time for being in the country unlawfully. He is also on trial for murder. The inmate is considered dangerous. If spotted members of the public are requested to contact their nearest Police station," said Mapole.
An investigation has been launched into the circumstances that led to the inmate’s escape.
