DA’s National Dialogue snub ‘undermines’ GNU
Updated | By Lebohang Ndashe
The ANC has hit back at the DA for rejecting the upcoming National Dialogue, accusing the party of prioritising party interests over national unity.

It also believes the DA’s stance disrupts the functioning of the Government of National Unity (GNU).
On Saturday, DA leader John Steenhuisen dismissed the initiative as a “waste of time and money” following reports that the cost is estimated at around R700 million.
In its statement, the ANC said the DA’s objection is not based on principle but rather retaliation for the dismissal of DA deputy minister Andrew Whitfield, who was removed for defying Ramaphosa and flouting travel approval rules.
“This response speaks volumes about the DA’s character, they are willing to undermine national interests in pursuit of their narrow partisan agenda.”
“The National Dialogue aims to foster inclusive, constructive engagement among South Africans to address the country’s political, social, and economic challenges, strengthen democracy, and promote national unity.”
The ANC urged the DA to clarify whether it is a committed partner in the GNU—or positioning itself as a quasi‑opposition.
It also warned that the DA’s threat to vote against budget allocations for key ministries like Human Settlements and Higher Education would undermine the very spirit and functioning of the GNU, potentially harming service delivery for vulnerable communities.
This comes after the DA said it will vote against budgets of ‘corruption accused’ ANC ministers.
