The Eastern Cape provincial government says it's in talks with the United Arab Emirates about a possible joint investment project.

The president of the UAE and ruler of Abu Dhabi Sheik Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan is on a two-week visit to the province.
“The provincial government is negotiating the possibility of a joint investment project to raise standards at the government-owned Bhisho Airport in line with requirements of an International cargo airport as a start,” said the Eastern Cape government’s Khuselwa Rantjie.
“The province is working hard to strengthen trade relations with the UAE in various areas including education, agriculture, renewable energy, oil and gas, research and innovation as well as partnerships in the aviation economy.”
News24 reported this week that Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and his family landed on an R20-million runway he built with his own money. He is staying at a private game resort he owns.
Rantjie said the Bhisho Airport was designated as the point of entry for the UAE president.
“The Bhisho Airport has, in line with South Africa's protocols, been in the interim designated as a port of entry to enable the passage of the UAE leader. All relevant resources have been put in place at the airport to ensure adherence with the laws of the country.”
