EFF confirms supporters killed in Vryheid crash

The Economic Freedom Fighters in KwaZulu-Natal have confirmed that the bus involved in the deadly Vryheid crash was carrying its supporters.

The party said the members were being transported home after attending a Youth Day rally at King Zwelithini Stadium in Umlazi on Monday, where leader Julius Malema addressed members.
Ten people died when a truck side-swiped their bus in the early hours of Tuesday morning.
EFF KZN spokesperson Chris Msibi said it is devastating, as most of those on board were young party members.
He said they are awaiting the outcome of investigations, but confirmed all transport had undergone safety inspections.
"We are hoping that it was a mere accident, not that the bus was not in good condition, because we always ensure that when we hire the buses," said Msibi.
"We check everything in so far as the roadworthiness of that particular transport."
KZN Transport Department MEC Siboniso Duma is due to visit the crash scene on Tuesday afternoon.
It is understood the national EFF leadership will also visit the site.
