EFF: ‘Grossly incompetent’ police on scene unaware Hillary Gardee was shot in head
The EFF says the autopsy conducted on Hillary Gardee indicate the slain 28-year-old woman was shot in the head.
Gardee was the daughter of former EFF secretary general Godrich Gardee.
Her body was found dumped in bushes outside Mbombela on Tuesday after she was first reported missing on Friday.
Speaking outside the Gardee family home on Wednesday, EFF spokesperson Sinawo Tambo said the party has little faith in the police’s ability to catch the killers.
"We have received information that a bullet wound was located in the back of her head, which means she was shot almost execution-style and the police on the scene did not pick up that Hillary was shot. This is gross incompetence. This means the police did not conduct thorough investigation of the crime scene, and now it is too late. The crime scene has been contaminated.
"The motive behind the her kidnapping and murder may be more deeper."
Tambo also confirmed that money was withdrawn from Hillary’s bank account.
"There were transactions from the point where she was abducted, about three to four hours of cash send or e-wallet sent to herself. One cannot shoot someone for a transaction of R1 300, the risk is too high. We don't believe this is a common criminal act to just steal petty cash."
