EFF vows to continue Clicks protests following court order

The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) has vowed to continue with its protests at Clicks stores despite an interim interdict granted in favour of the health and beauty retailer.

Clicks approached the High Court on an urgent basis following the first day of protests by the EFF at its stories around the country.

The EFF is angry after a TRESemme advert on the company's website depicted black people's hair as "dry and dull" while white people's hair was depicted as "normal".

The retailer asked the court to prevent the red berets from intimidating and threatening its staff members.

But the EFF has vowed to continue with its protests until Friday – pointing out that the court has not declared the protests illegal.

“We will continue to protest across all Clicks outlets until 11 September,” says EFF spokesperson Vuyani Pambo.

“This is to ensure that Clicks which values profits over dignity of black people in this country feel the consequences of undermining the identity of black people and presenting whiteness as the standard for beauty.

“Our interactions with customers and employees have been peaceful, and we would like to advise all law enforcement agencies, be it private or the state, to read the court order carefully and appropriately to avoid infringing on our constitutional right to demonstrate.

Meanwhile, Clicks has confirmed that it will remove all TRESemme products from its shelves with immediate effect.

The senior executive responsible for the advertisement has also resigned amid the furore.
