Eikenhof substation fire leaves suburbs without water
Updated | By JacarandaFM News
Residents affected by Monday’s explosion at the Eikenhof substation have been dealt a double
blow.

Water supply to Western Johannesburg, the West Rand and Rustenburg in the North West’s will be affected as a result of the Eikenhof substation fire.
Rand Water spokesperson Justice Mohale says water supply in the affected areas will only be restored when the power comes back on.
"Rand Water and City Power's technical teams are on the site and they are trying to work on the restoration, which at the moment will take a certain period to be fixed.
“I can only speak from Rand Water's side to say as soon as electricity has been restored then we will start pumping immediately,” he says.
Meanwhile, City Power technicians have not been able to get onto site as the fire is still raging.
"We are on the scene currently. Emergency services are here trying to put down the fire and there's smoke now. The area has not been declared safe for people to walk in so our technicians are outside waiting to be allowed entry to be able to conduct assessments so we can ascertain what has actually caused the fire,” says City Power spokesperson Isaac Mangena.
