Ekurhuleni cops arrested for theft in bid for bail

The case against 10 police officers who were arrested for theft in Edenvale has been postponed to Wednesday for the continuation of their bail application.

The officers, from Ekurhuleni metro police and SAPS, appeared in the Germiston Magistrate's Court on Tuesday following their arrest on Monday.
According to the Independent Police Investigative Directorate, the accused officers raided a shop in Edenvale in June, where they seized cigarettes worth R150,000 and took R35,000 cash.
However, the officers allegedly failed to record all the merchandise upon their return to the police station.
They were arrested after the shop manager disputed the quantity and type of merchandise booked in.
Gauteng NPA spokesperson Phindi Mjonondwane said the officers are currently only facing a charge of theft.
