Ekurhuleni man killed in shack fire

A man in his early forties died in a shack fire at the Marathon Informal Settlement in Germiston on the East Rand.

This after multiple shacks caught alight in the early hours of Friday morning.
Ekurhuleni Disaster and Emergency Management Services spokesperson William Ntladi says the department received a call just after midnight.
"Primary responding crews from Primrose fire station were the first to arrive on scene, followed by Bedfordview and then Edenvale, respectively. Seventeen firefighters formed one strong unit to battle the ranging flames. Two attack lines were used to bring flames under control before being knocked down completely.
"Following information received on scene of an entrapment, search ,rescue, and recovery commenced, and a charred body of an adult male was discovered under the burnt corrugated sheets.
"Paramedics conducted declaration before the scene was handed over to enforcement agencies.
"The cause of the fire is undetermined and still remains a subject of investigations by both the police and fire safety officers."
