Ekurhuleni power failure ‘severely impacting’ water supply to Tshwane
Updated | By Nokukhanya N Mntambo
Residents in parts of Tshwane may have to deal with with throttled water supply on Wednesday after a power supply failure hit at a substation in Ekurhuleni.

The substation supplies power to Rand Water's pump station.
According to Rand Water, the incident has resulted in a further decline of the water utility's reservoirs which supply water to Tshwane.
Technicians are believed to be on site and working to resolve the electrical fault associated with cables at the substation.
But no restoration time has been provided.
"Should the restoration of power be prolonged, this may result in Rand Water’s reservoirs running completely empty and will result in total reversal of the gain’s made yesterday. Furthermore, total water supply interruptions are like to occur," says Rand Water.
Tshwane's Phillip Nel has appealed to residents to use water sparingly.
"I want to apologise to residents for these continued interruptions, this morning we reported good progress on the recovery of our reservoirs. However, with this latest power failure affecting Rand Water this severely impacts bulk supply to the city," says Nel.
"The city is engaging closely with the City of Ekurhuleni and Rand Water and are doing everything we can to assist and ensure water returns to all areas of Tshwane as soon as possible."
