Ekurhuleni suspends its CFO
The Ekurhuleni Municipal Council has suspended the metro’s Group Chief Financial Officer Gugu Malaza.
Malaza was shown the door after she allegedly withheld the reasons why she was fired from the SABC ahead of her appointment.
According to Ekurhuleni Mayor Mzwandile Masina’s spokesperson, Phakamile Mbengashe, her failure to convey the rationale of her dismissal from the public broadcaster is in contravention of municipal laws.
“The city manager issued Ms. Malaza with a letter requesting her to provide reasons as to why she should not be suspended. Upon receiving a response from Ms. Malaza, the city manager found that there was no basis for her not to be suspended.”
Malaza was dismissed by the SABC in 2014 for alleged procurement and financial irregularities.
Mbengashe says final investigations are underway and are expected to wrap up in the next three months.
