An Eldorado Park police officer is due to make his first appearance at the Protea Magistrate Court on Monday after allegedly killing his 22-year-old girlfriend with a service pistol.

The girlfriend was a Gauteng Crime Prevention Warden at the time.
The 42-year-old man allegedly fired several shots at his 22-year-old girlfriend through the window of her residence in Eldorado Park, following a domestic dispute.
An Independent Police Investigative Directorate spokesperson, Lizzy Suping, says they have reconstructed the crime scene.
The officer is facing a murder charge.
“After the incident, the accused officer fled the scene. As he was about to be arrested during the day, he allegedly shot at himself. He is in hospital under police guard,” Suping said.
Meanwhile, Gauteng Acting Premier, Lebogang Maile, is expected to visit the deceased’s home today after visiting Eldorado Park police station.
“I am deeply disturbed by the senseless killing," said Maile.
“As the Gauteng Provincial Government, we condemn all forms of violence, especially against women. We will work tirelessly to ensure justice is served and support is provided to the affected family and community.”
