Elections 2024: DA will retain Western Cape - Zille
Updated | By Cliff Shiko
Democratic Alliance Federal Council chair Helen Zille believes the party is on course to reach its goals in what has been a fiercely contested election.

The DA remained in second place nationally, behind the ANC, on Thursday afternoon, as the results continued to trickle in a day after the national and provincial elections.
Zille visited the IEC’s National Results Operation Centre in Johannesburg on Thursday.
While the DA held onto its position as the official opposition, Zille said it is still early to tell how well the party will perform.
However, she is confident the Western Cape will remain in the DA’s hands.
“It is very early days. I don’t want to be worried by things in the early days. The metros have not come in yet; the metros, of course, are where the DA has a major vote.
“I keep very calm in all circumstances. I never get worried by anything, we will wait and see.”
Zille said she was not surprised by the strides made by the new kid on the block Umkhonto weSizwe, led by former president Jacob Zuma
“MK is another example of the ethnic identity vote, a very powerful one. Former president Zuma was the strongest and most senior Zulu-speaking candidate, leading a party in this election, and we have seen what the consequences are. It is too early to say with any finality yet.”
