Eleven killed in Eastern Cape accident
Updated | By Selaki Ledwaba
The accident involving a minibus taxi and a bakkie happened on the N2 outside Dutywa, near Nywarha Location at 20:00 on Saturday evening.

The minibus taxi was carrying 10 passengers, eight of whom died on the scene.
The bakkie was reported to be carrying four passengers and three died on the scene while the other sustained serious injuries
Road and Transport spokesperson in the province, Unathi Binqose, says the road has since been reopened and the cause of the accident is under investigation.
“The N2 is one of those roads that have been flagged as the most dangerous roads in the country, (particularly) that stretch between Khashi bridge and Umthatha”
Binqose added that the accident follows another incident where four people died in the same area last week Monday.
“It is really puzzling why that stretch of the road would be flagged as one of the most dangerous roads. Of course, it is due to the accidents happening, such as the one reported, but as to why the accidents are constantly happening, is beyond me,” Binqose said.
Bonqose says what is more confusing is that the N2 has no obstructions that can be the possible cause of these frequent accidents.
“There's a greater responsibility on drivers to be extra cautious and be patient with one another so we can avoid head-on collisions."
