Employment climbs by 0.1% - Stats SA

Statistics South Africa says employment increased by 0,1% in the last quarter of 2024.

The increase was observed in trade, business services, transport and electricity.
Stats SA announced the figures on Tuesday, saying 3,000 jobs were lost due to a decrease in industries such as community services, manufacturing, construction, and mining.
Stats SA released the latest quarterly employment figures on Tuesday.
According to Stats SA, part-time employment increased by 0.2% quarter-on-quarter, while basic salaries paid to employees increased by R9.5 billion or 1.1%.
Gross earnings paid to employees increased by R59.1 billion or 6.1% with a 0,2% decrease.
Bonuses paid to employees increased by R51.8 billion, while overtime paid to employees decreased by R2.2 billion.
"This was largely due to a decrease in the following industries: business services, community services, transport and electricity,” the agency reported.
"However, there was an increase in the following industries: construction, trade and manufacturing."
