Eskom blocked from installing prepaid meters in Dlamini
Updated | By Anastasi Mokgobu
Eskom says it has switched off electricity to some parts of Dlamini in Soweto after community members denied workers access to install split meters.

The power utility is in the process of installing the meters throughout Gauteng as part of efforts to improve payment by residents.
Soweto residents owe the power utility some R5 billion.
Eskom Gauteng’s Mashangu Xivambu says community leaders were informed of the project implementation ahead of time.
However, the community still prevented Eskom workers from resuming work on Thursday.
He says the electricity will remain switched off until the community allow workers in the area.
“Electricity supply will not be restored until we receive confirmation that the community is ready to allow our employees safe access into the area and will not interfere with them while they do their work.
“It is important for Eskom to be certain that it can guarantee the safety of its employees before it can dispatch them to resume with operations,” says Xivambu.
