Eskom has ‘full confidence’ in COO Jan Oberholzer
Updated | By Sibahle Motha
Power utility Eskom on Friday expressed its full confidence in chief operating officer (COO) Jan Oberholzer.

This follows allegations of corruption, nepotism and victimisation orchestrated made against Oberholzer by an employee at the power utility.
“The board wishes to affirm its full confidence in Mr Oberholzer’s integrity and will continue to lend him all the necessary support to enable him to fully perform his job at Eskom,” says spokesperson Sikonathi Matshantsha.
The grievances against Oberholzer were brought by the former Eskom GM of coal and clean technologies Mark Chettiar.
The High Court in Johannesburg also ruled in favour of Oberholzer in a payment dispute with Aveng.
Oberholzer was accused by Chettiar of pressuring him to settle a R40 million invoice due to the contractor.

“The High Court ruling has now vindicated the COO’s stance on the payment dispute with Aveng,” says Matshatsha.
Advocate Nazir Cassim, who was brought in by Eskom to investigate the grievance against Oberholzer, has also cleared him of any wrongdoing.
“In his investigation report into the grievance against the COO, advocate Cassim had directed Eskom to conduct a disciplinary action against the COO on the allegations.
“Advocate Cassim had also advised Eskom to await the outcome of the court case before taking any action.
“In a subsequent opinion, Adv. Cassim has cleared Mr Oberholzer of all wrongdoing on this matter, which brings the grievance procedure against the COO to finality,” adds Matshantsha.
