Eskom rubbishes 8-hour outage claim, assures grid stability
Updated | By Mmangaliso Khumalo
Eskom has rubbished social media reports suggesting that the country faces an 8-hour power outage or imminent load shedding due to winter-related challenges.

In a tweet on the social media platform X, Eskom labelled the claims as false and misleading.
"There are no planned outages of this magnitude," Eskom spokesperson Daphne Mokwena said. "The power system remains stable, and loadshedding has been suspended since 22:00 on 15 May 2025."
The utility stressed that misinformation of this nature contributes to unnecessary public anxiety, especially at a time when the energy grid is showing signs of resilience.
"We urge all stakeholders and members of the public to rely only on official Eskom communication platforms for accurate and up-to-date information about the power system’s status," Mokwena added.
Eskom reassured South Africans that, despite increased winter demand, the current power supply remains steady, and no load shedding is planned for the immediate future.
This comes as the utility continues to work toward long-term energy stability and reduce dependence on the dreaded planned power cuts.
