Two pupils at the BB Myataza Secondary School say they are anxious but excited to write their matric final exams.

Grade 12 pupils at the school participated in the pledge signing ceremony hosted by Education MEC Matome Chiloane on Monday morning.
Diamond Miya said though they had a hard time during preliminary exams, she believes they can achieve a 100% matric pass for the school.
“We didn’t do that good with our prelims, our results were not as good as we wanted them to be, but I think that we the help that we got with the SSIP [Secondary School Intervention Programme] programmes we can definitely give the school a 100%,” she said.
SIPPs are focused on extensive revision using multiple resources for matriculants at risk, moderate performers and top performers which was offered for several subjects such as mathematics, physical sciences, geography, economics, and life sciences among others.
According to the Gauteng Education Department readiness report, 88,666 matriculants attended classes at walk-in centres and 14,944 matriculants attended Residential Camps.
Commerce pupil Lungile Mngomezulu says after her prelims, the programme helped her plan her preparation for the upcoming exams.
“After my examinations, I went to a camp which was really good, especially to up my game and my results – mostly in accounting.”
The programme ends next Wednesday.
At the same time, Gauteng Education head of department Edward Mosuwe said they also have psychosocial support available for pupils who are battling anxiety.
“We want to impress on learners, especially in the context of being anxious, that they should not do anything that may compromise their health or otherwise and equally that can cause their families to regret. We know that during this time there could be suicide cases and so on,” Mosuwe said.
The national matric results are expected to be released on 19 January 2023, while the provincial results will be announced the next day.
Pupils may pick up their statements from their respective schools on the day of the provincial release.
