Expect more load shedding, says new Eskom boss

Newly appointed Eskom Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Andre De Ruyter, says South Africans should expect an increase in load shedding.

The embattled power utility implemented stage two load shedding from 9am on Friday - with the message that it will last through out the weekend and until 6 o'clock on on Monday morning.

 

De Ruyter addressed the media for the first time since his appointment at Megawatt Park on Friday.

He said it was regrettable that they have to re-implement load shedding.

 

"Unfortunately we have to expect some increase in load shedding. We are going to have to do this in a structured, careful, managed way. We will have to be able to give ourselves the space to fix what needs to fixed.

 

"If we don't implement this maintenance plan, there is a very real risk that the deterioration in our system will continue and we, therefore, need an intervention and we need it is as soon as possible," added De Ruyter.
