Explosives smuggler busted at Beitbridge border post

A Zimbabwean national (28) has been arrested for the illegal possession of explosives, at the Beitbridge port of entry in Limpopo on Friday.

He was arrested after a member of the K9 dog unit, discovered suspicious items concealed in red 50kg polyester bags during routine search operations.
Police say the Musina explosive unit recovered 6 reels of detonating fuses, 90 blasting cartridges and 100 carmex connector capped fuses.
Police spokesperson Malesela Ledwaba says the explosives were found inside a trailer towed by a white minibus taxi.
"The initial investigation indicated that the consignment was reportedly destined for Cape Town," he says.
"The provincial commissioner, lieutenant-general Thembi Hadebe has praised the vigilance and cooperation between various departments at the Beitbridge port of entry."
The suspect is expected to appear before the Musina Magistrate's Court on Monday for violating the Explosives Act.
