The two will remain locked up while they await a possible bail hearing on charges of corruption and money laundering.

The pair appeared briefly in the Roodepoort Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday following their arrest in connection with a jobs-for-cash scandal allegedly targeting vulnerable job seekers.

Magangana, who was stationed at the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court at the time of the alleged offences in August 2022, is accused of soliciting R10,000 each from three individuals who were promised permanent employment as prosecutors, without undergoing any formal interviews or application process.

The money was allegedly paid into the bank account of Jam Jam.

The victims, after failing to secure the promised jobs, reported the matter to the NPA‘s Office for Ethics and Accountability in May 2023.

Following an internal investigation, the NPA recommended criminal charges and disciplinary action.

The prosecuting authority’s Phindi Mjonondwane urged the public not to fall victim to employment scams.

"We want to warn the public not to fall prey to false promises. The NPA does not require any payment for employment. Our recruitment processes are official, transparent, and advertised publicly."

Both accused are expected to return to court on 20 June for a bail application.
