A 34-year-old fugitive has been arrested on multiple charges of rape and robberies in Tzaneen.
He has been on the run for months.
Police say the man lured his unsuspecting victims through Facebook, promising them non-existent domestic work in the Tzaneen area.
Some of the crimes happened in Pharare, Mogophong, Mogoloboto and Burgersdorp villages.
Limpopo police spokesperson Motlafela Mojapelo says the man is linked to at least 14 cases.
“His victims travelled from as far as KwaZulu-Natal and Lesotho. Upon their arrival at taxi ranks and bus terminals, he would make excuses and lead them to a nearby bush to arrive, where he would rape and rob them of their belongings and then flee the scene.
“The team worked tirelessly and managed to track down the suspect within a period of three months. He was arrested on Saturday at Letaba hospital, this after he was admitted with a gunshot wound allegedly sustained in Burgersdorp village near a graveyard.”
The suspect is expected to appear in Tzaneen Magistrate’s Court after his recovery from hospital.
