Father in court for attempted murder of daughter (4)
A 32-year-old man is expected to appear in the Protea Magistrate’s Court on Friday, facing charges of attempted murder and child abuse.
On Wednesday, police responded to a complaint of child abuse at a home in Eldorado Park.
Upon arrival, officers were directed to a locked backyard shack where they found the suspect along with a little boy and a four-year-old girl.
The child was discovered lying on a bed with visible head injuries, bruises, and a swollen eye.
The man, who identified himself as the father of the children, was unable to provide a clear explanation for the girl’s condition.
The child was immediately rushed to a nearby medical facility for urgent treatment.
Police spokesperson Mavela Masondo says following the discovery, the father was arrested and charged with attempted murder and child abuse.
"Further investigations by the Family Violence, Child Protection, and Sexual Offences Unit led to the arrest of the girl’s mother. She faces charges of defeating the ends of justice, believed to be connected to attempts to conceal the abuse."
Investigations are ongoing.
