FEDSAS welcomes school tuck shop registrations
Updated | By Cliff Shiko
The Federation of Governing Bodies of South African Schools has welcomed the government's move to register all school tuck shops.

Earlier this month, the Gauteng Department of Education banned food sales at all schools due to multiple incidents of foodborne illnesses.
The outbreak has cost the lives of at least 13 children in Gauteng alone.
All food sellers in the schools will now be required to be registered within the 21-day period, as ordered by President Cyril Ramaphosa on Friday.
Vendors operating on school premises will need to obtain a valid Certificate of Acceptability.
FEDSAS CEO Jaco Deacon said the department erred by instituting a blanket ban on food sales at schools.
"So we can welcome that call. What we cannot welcome is where the department takes the law into its own hands when it issues instructions where it cannot do it.
"The tuck shops at schools could have been open all the time, but we welcome the process, and we support a call that vendors should register at local authorities. We encourage our members in schools in the event that they haven't complied, that they do comply now,” he added.
