Fire fighter injured during old Pretoria power station blaze

The fire erupted in a switch gear room at the decommissioned plant on Friday night.
One firefighter was injured when a hose nozzle hit the face shield of her helmet.
Tshwane EMS spokesperson Charles Mabaso says the cause of the fire is unknown.
"The switch gear room had four switch components with oil that was burning intensely, the switch gear room roof collapsed and parts of the walls also collapsed because of the intense heat and an explosion that occurred inside the burning switch gear room.
"The fire was contained to the switch gear room and subsequently extinguished, the cause of the fire has not been determined," said Mabaso.
Mabaso said the switch gear room fire affected the substations that provide electricity to most parts of Pretoria West.
The estimated time of power restoration is not yet known.
