ICYMI: First major cold front expected to bite this weekend

The South African Weather Service(SAWS) expects cool and cold conditions in the central parts of the country over the weekend.

"From today (Friday) fine to cool temperatures are expected over Gauteng. It will be warm over some areas over Mpumalanga and Limpopo from today (Friday) into Saturday. Fine conditions will persist into Saturday in both Mpumalanga and Limpopo as well as Gauteng where it is expected to be cool, but warmer temperatures are mainly over Limpopo and Mpumalanga. However, Gauteng just remains cool, with just fine conditions expected, most of our showers and rain are over the south and central areas."
SAWS forecaster, Lehlohonolo Thobela says cold conditions are expected to blanket large parts of South Africa from Sunday.
"On Sunday, that's when we get to our weather over the north eastern parts which mainly affect Gauteng, where it will be cloudy with cool temperatures expected, but we are having an isolated chance of showers and thundershowers in Gauteng but will be scattered over the southern parts with cooler temperatures mainly over the province. In Mpumalanga where, we are expecting a 30% chance of rain, mainly over the central and southwestern areas.
"In Limpopo, warm and fine conditions are expected, with partly cloudy and warm conditions in the northern parts of the province, with a 30% chance of rain expected in the southern parts of Limpopo with showers and thundershowers."
Thobela adds that snow is expected over the KwaZulu-Natal highlining areas.
"We are expecting some snow in the Drakensberg on Sunday, touching areas part of the eastern part of the Eastern Cape. Colder temperatures then should start happening in the central parts from Monday."
