The head-on collision between an SUV and a bakkie on Thursday afternoon left three more people injured.

Mpumalanga Transport Department spokesperson Moeti Mmusi said the road was closed and urged motorists to seek alternative routes.

“Negligence and reckless driving cannot be ruled out as the main cause of the accident,”  said Mmusi.

Last Sunday, Minister of Roads and Transport Barbara Creecy attributed 80% of accidents in the country to human error, including speeding, texting while driving, and driving under the influence of alcohol, walking on highways, and across highways.
