Flooding hits southern parts of KNP

SANParks says persistent rain has closed some roads in the southern parts of Kruger National Park.

Spokesperson Ike Phaahla says the wet weather has caused structural damage to roads leading to the southern part of the KNP, necessitating their closure.
“Due to structural damage, we have closed some roads for precautionary measures, and those would be your gravel roads. Most of them have been closed and are being monitored.
“We also have the temporary Skukuza road, which also part of it washed away, and there were some parts exposed.”
Phaahla says the Kruger National Park’s technical team has begun repairing some of the damaged structures.
However, more assessments will be carried out once the rain has stopped.
Although the park is fully open, tourists should be careful.
Phaahla urges them to obey “No Entry” signs and refrain from getting out of their cars.
“That other concerning thing is people getting out of their cars to move out of the rivers. We caution people not to do that, it is still a wild area, there might be predators, there might be elephants or buffalos which may cause serious injuries to people.”
