FlySafair, Solidarity wage discussions at 'sensitive stage'
Updated | By Mmangaliso Khumalo
Negotiations between FlySafair and trade union Solidarity have reached a sensitive and critical stage, as the two parties continue mediation under the auspices of the Commission for Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration (CCMA).

Around 200 pilots represented by Solidarity have been on strike since Monday, following a breakdown in wage negotiations.
While FlySafair has offered a multi-year 5.7% wage increase, the union is holding out for a 10.5% hike along with improved working conditions.
Solidarity confirmed that both the strike and lockout conditions remain in place, but said negotiations are ongoing and will resume on Friday.
“FlySafair continues to operate a reduced but stable flight schedule. Following disruptions on Monday, the airline is pleased to confirm that all scheduled flights have since departed with 97% of flights yesterday departing on time,” said FlySafair Chief Marketing Officer Kirby Gordon.
The low-cost airline described Wednesday’s CCMA-facilitated session as constructive and “a meaningful step forward” in resolving the dispute.
Both parties have committed to returning to the table to continue discussions aimed at reaching a mutually acceptable resolution.
Since the strike began, FlySafair’s operations have been under strain, but the airline says it has managed to maintain most of its flight schedule, with contingency measures in place.
