Former cop arrested for possessing ARV's

A former police officer and a clinic clerk have been
arrested for possession of Antiretroviral Drugs (ARV's) in Mpumalanga.

The two suspects, former cop Caleb Bonginkosi Hlatshwayo, and Thaphelo Sibusiso Magagula appeared in the Matsulu Magistrate's Court on Tuesday.
Mpumalanga police spokesperson, Leonard Hlathi, says police where acting on intelligence information that the two were in possession of ARV's and making their way to Kanyamazane for delivery.
"The members responded to the information and stopped the vehicle fitting the description given around Matsulu Crossing. They proceeded to search the vehicle and found packets containing suspected stolen ARV drugs. The duo was arrested after that," says Hlathi.
He adds that Hlatshwayo was dismissed from the police force in 2018 for corruption and Magagula works as an Administration Clerk at Matsulu Clinic.
Hlathi says the total value of the ARV's is estimated at R34 500.00.
The two were granted R1 000 bail each and are expected to re-appear at the Matsulu Magistrate's Court on the 3rd October 2019.
