Four children die in Boksburg shack fire amid cold front
The Ekurhuleni Emergency Management Services confirmed that four children have been killed in a shack fire incident in Vella Lisa Ext2, in Boksburg.
The fire broke out on Friday night.
"Ekurhuleni emergency services were alerted to the fire at 20:35 and responded promptly, they found the shack fully engulfed in flames, with members of the community already attempting to extinguish the fire," the EMS said in media statement.
EMS said the firefighters managed to contain and extinguish the fire upon arrival.
"A search, rescue, and recovery operation was then conducted, leading to the discovery of four bodies that had been burnt beyond recognition.
Meanwhile, two other children died in yet another fire in Katlehong, Friday night as the cold front persist.
The cause of the fire in both incidents is being investigated.
"The cause of the fire remains unknown at this time, and both fire safety and SAPS are present at the scene to conduct further investigations."
