Free State premier, Health MEC test positive for Covid-19

Free State Premier Sisi Ntombela and Health MEC Montseng Tsiu have tested positive for Covid-19, the premier’s office announced on Tuesday evening.

The director-general of the provincial government Kopung Ralikontsane has also tested positive for the virus.
Spokesperson for the premier’s office Setjhaba Maphalla says Ralikontsane and Tsiu's results returned positive over the weekend, while Ntombela's results returned positive on Tuesday.
Ntombela will continue with her duties while in isolation, while Tsiu is receiving medical attention.

Maphalla says it’s important for all South African to continue to act with caution.
"The Free State provincial government wishes to emphasize to the public that although the country moved to alert level 1 of the national lockdown, from midnight on 20 September 2020, the fight against the virus is far from over, as we are still in the midst of a deadly pandemic.
Ntombela is not the first premier to test positive for coronavirus since the outbreak started in March.
Gauteng Premier David Makhura, and his counterparts in North West Job Mokgoro and the Western Cape Alan Winde have also previously tested positive for the virus.
